These Terms of Use (“Terms”) form a legally binding agreement between you and MARATTO AFRICA LTD (Company No. 17169961, registered office: 3rd Floor, 45 Albemarle Street, Mayfair, London W1S 4JL, United Kingdom), referred to in these Terms as “MARATTO,” “we,” “us,” or “our.”
By accessing maratto.africa or creating an account, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
MARATTO™ is Africa's Outsourced Technology Transfer Office, giving universities the capability to identify, protect, and commercialise their research without the cost of building it internally. The platform serves universities, researchers, domain experts, investors, donors, industry partners, and other stakeholders in the African research commercialisation ecosystem.
MARATTO™ is operated by MARATTO AFRICA LTD and forms part of the Dazzle™ Africa ecosystem.
Our services include VENTURA™ (a 12-week incubation and accelerator programme), OTTO™ (multi-year outsourced TTO engagement), GALLOP™ (fractional executive placement for spinouts), CORE Score™ (commercialisation readiness assessment), INNCOMM Rating™ (institutional benchmarking), and the UNICOM™ series. Full service descriptions and any product-specific terms are available on the relevant product pages and in any engagement letter you enter into with us.
To create an account on the MARATTO platform, you must be at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract. You agree to:
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms, contain false information, or are used for purposes incompatible with the platform.
You may use the platform for legitimate purposes consistent with these Terms. You agree NOT to:
All content on maratto.africa, including text, design, software, brand names, logos, the MARATTO™, VENTURA™, OTTO™, GALLOP™, CORE Score™, INNCOMM Rating™, UNICOM™, and Dazzle™ marks, the university directory, and the curated researcher and institutional data, is owned by or licensed to MARATTO AFRICA LTD. You may not reproduce, redistribute, modify, or create derivative works from this content without our prior written consent.
You retain ownership of any content you submit to the platform (for example, profile information, research summaries, and correspondence). By submitting content, you grant MARATTO AFRICA LTD a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to host, display, and use that content for the purpose of operating and improving the platform and delivering services to you. This licence ends when you delete the content or close your account, except where we retain content as required for legal, contractual, or backup purposes (see our Privacy Policy for retention details).
If you provide feedback or suggestions, we may use them to improve the platform without obligation or compensation to you.
University and researcher profiles are constructed from publicly available information, including OpenAlex and other open sources, and supplemented by data submitted by users. We make reasonable efforts to ensure accuracy but cannot guarantee completeness or currency.
If you believe information about your institution or yourself is incorrect, contact us at hello@maratto.africa to request a correction or, where applicable, removal under your rights set out in our Privacy Policy.
Submitting the Register Interest form or any enquiry form does not create a binding commercial contract. It expresses intent to learn more and authorises MARATTO to contact you about our services. Commercial engagement is governed by a separate engagement letter executed between MARATTO AFRICA LTD and your institution or organisation.
You may unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting hello@maratto.africa.
The platform may contain links to third-party websites or integrate with third-party services. We do not control or endorse these third parties and are not responsible for their content, privacy practices, or availability. Your use of third-party websites and services is at your own risk and subject to their terms.
The platform is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We make no warranties or representations, express or implied, regarding uptime, accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Features and services may change at our discretion.
Nothing in this disclaimer affects any statutory rights that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law:
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for: death or personal injury caused by negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law.
You agree to indemnify and hold MARATTO AFRICA LTD harmless from any claims, losses, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the platform, or your infringement of any third-party rights.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the platform at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or if continued provision of services is no longer commercially viable for us.
You may close your account at any time by contacting hello@maratto.africa. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including Intellectual Property, Disclaimer, Limitation of Liability, Indemnification, and Governing Law) will continue to apply.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated by email to active account holders where reasonably possible. Continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, and any engagement letter you enter into with us, constitute the entire agreement between you and MARATTO AFRICA LTD concerning the platform.
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from or in connection with these Terms, except that we reserve the right to bring proceedings against you in any other jurisdiction where you are based.
