Whole Body Vibration versus Aerobic Training on Interleukin 6 and Endurance After Renal Transplantation

Abstract

Renal transplant recipients (RTRs) continue to experience the negative effects of uremic illness, including increased cardiovascular risk, raised levels of inflammatory cytokines (IL6), decreased employment capability, and lower quality of life, even after a successful kidney transplant. The study sought to examine the effects of stationary cycling exercise versus whole-body vibration on lowering interleukin 6 and enhancing the 6-minute walking test (6MWT) in patients following kidney transplantation. Methods: This study included sixty patients, ages 30 to 45, who had undergone kidney transplant surgery. They were chosen at random from Cairo's Alkahraba Hospital. They were randomized and equally distributed into two groups : Group (A): For 12 weeks, thirty patients who had received renal transplants underwent whole-body vibration therapy for 20 minutes, three times a week. Group (B): For 12 weeks, thirty patients who had received kidney transplants engaged in aerobic activity by pedaling a stationary bicycle for 30 minutes three times a week. Interleukin 6 (IL-6) levels were measured utilizing a blood analyzer, and endurance was evaluated utilizing a stopwatch during the 6MWT, and 30-secs sit-to-stand test (30sSTS) both prior to and after treatment. At the beginning and end of the intervention, the gathered data was analyzed. Results: Comparing both groups indicated a significant reduction in IL-6 levels after treatment (d = 0.72, p < 0.01) and significant increase 6MWT (d = 1.78, p < 0.001) and 30sSTS performance (d = 0.58, p < 0.05) in group A relative to group B. Conclusion: Whole body vibration was more effective than aerobic training in reducing IL-6 and improving endurance after renal transplantation.
