Two kaurane-type diterpenoids isolated from leaves of <i>Combretum bauchiense</i> Hutch. &amp; Dalziel (Combretaceae)

Abstract

Our chemical investigation led to the isolation of two kaurane-type diterpenoids, combauchidiol, a dimer and combauchinol, a monomer, from Combretum bauchiense Hutch. & Dalziel leaves. These compounds were isolated using a combination of different chromatographic techniques, and their chemical structures were elucidated by (1- and 2-D) NMR analysis and comparisons with literature materials. The two isolated compounds are further, in addition to potential pharmacological properties previously reported on Combretum genus. However, this is the first report on the chemical constituents of C. bauchiense and it may be a possible source of new therapeutic agents.
