The streaming industry, spearheaded by Netflix, has undergone a transformative evolution since its inception, encountering fierce competition from emerging platforms. This paper investigates the network effect strategies leveraged by the top five streaming services in the USA from 2010 to 2021, highlighting Netflix’s adaptive strategies that have sustained its market leadership. Amidst a landscape rife with rivals, Netflix pursues aggressive diversification, expanding beyond traditional streaming into sectors such as dining and theatrical experiences to contend with formidable competitors like Disney. This research underscores the significance of consumer behavior in shaping market dynamics, revealing that Netflix’s reliance on data-driven algorithms and strategic partnerships is crucial for maintaining subscriber growth. As original content production becomes increasingly predictable, the potential for acquisitions looms, prompting Netflix to navigate a complex interplay of innovation and competition.
