The Status of Collaboration Between Librarians and Library and Information Science Academics

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the status of collaboration between librarians and academics in the Department of Library and Information Science (LIS). The study employed qualitative research method and the purposive sampling to select the research participants who were librarians and LIS academics. The data was gathered from librarians and LIS academics through the structured interviews. The findings revealed that the level of collaboration between LIS academics and librarians is satisfactory; however, it is too minimal to influence the entire LIS profession as they work in isolation which makes them lack commitment, dedication, and respect towards one another. The study recommends that librarians and LIS academics' collaboration must be sensitised by enhancing collaboration engagement activities, initiating collaboration engagement groups, and building and maintaining relationships. It is also recommended the strategies for producing well-qualified graduates who meet the LIS job market's expectations be developed while keeping up with current trends in the LIS field.
