The Spatial and Categorical Landscape of Public Health Events in Cameroon (2000-2023): Implications for Emergency Preparedness

Abstract

The aspect addressed by this study. This study provides a 23-year national overview of significant public health events in Cameroon, and analyzes their categorical and spatial distribution from 2000 to 2023. What this study adds. Our analysis of 98 events reveals that transport accidents and epidemics constitute almost 60% of the national burden. While every region experienced at least one event, the Littoral, Far North, and Centre regions recorded the highest concentrations. Notably, the Centre region was the only one exposed to all hazard categories, and epidemics were reported in every region. The study also documents a significant increase in reported events after 2010, indicating an expanding risk profile. This publication is available in full in Health Research in Africa.
