The solar chimney development in Iraq and Saudi Arabia – a review

202511 citationsUniversity of Skikda

Abstract

The enhancement of solar chimney technology and application in Iraq and Saudi Arabia for the generation of sustainable energy is a requirement of increasing energy and environment crisis. The findings reveal that solar chimneys may greatly enhance surrounding temperatures and air circulation. Certain models, such as the 36 m2 collecting area and 6 m chimney height investigated in Tikrit, Iraq, showed good execution under local climate conditions. The study comes to the conclusion that venting contaminated areas, including solar chimney systems, can augment urban air quality in addition to delivering clean electricity technology. In order to augment efficiency and implementation pragmatism in a variety of geographical settings, recommendations consist of extending the number of thermal collectors, looking into hybrid systems that amalgamate solar chimneys with other renewable technologies, and doing more studies into improving the configurations of design.
