The Importance of Smart Protection in Microgrids with High Dger Penetration

Abstract

This work highlights microgrids protection scheme challenges due to high penetration of distributed generation to reveal the necessity of smart protection relays. This novel approach focuses on relay settings reel-time update based on data trade between the different relays and the distribution generation units. The detailed analysis is carried out in a validated 5 bus system using Matlab/Simulink Software.
