Smart buildings provide valuable insights and real-time data, reduce energy consumption and bills, lower operational costs, enable predictive maintenance, and improve occupant comfort and productivity. digital transformation for buildings has advanced faster than expected, and innovation remains the primary catalyst driving building digitization around the world. This study focused solely on identifying the components of a smart building and determining the initial cost of the components, excluding all other costs. The study employed a mixed method methodology where the Questionnaire, Document and Survey were used as methods of data collection. The questionnaire was used to collect data on the components of a smart building while the document and survey were used for the costing aspect of the research. The study established that the most common component for smart buildings are the smart security systems with a mean value of 2.28 and ranked 1st, smart access control with mean value of 2.27 and ranked 2nd , smart elevators with mean value of 2.12 and ranked 3rd while the smart thermostats are the least common with a mean value of 1.64. the initial costings of these components were also established. This study will thus serve as guide for a client in making choices between a smart building and a traditional one it was then recommended that clients should always make comparism between the smart options and the traditional options before making final choices.
