THE EFFECT OF OSSEODENSIFICATION TECHNIQUE ON IMPLANT PLACEMENT IN THE MAXILLARY POSTERIOR REGION (CLINICAL AND RADIOGRAPHICAL STUDY)

Abstract

Background: Dental implant became one of the most effective treatment modalities for replacing edentulous area. Since, bone density is an important factor affecting implant success, therefore, low bone density decreases chance for obtaining accepted primary stability for implant. Osseodensification technique can be used instead of conventional drilling technique to enhance primary stability.Objectives: To evaluate the primary stability and bone density using Densah burs with osseodensification technique in the maxillary posterior region.Materials and Methods: 10 Patients had D3 and D4 bone density were selected to undergo implant placement using osseodensification technique. Evaluation done included: clinically, the primary stability was measured immediately after implant placement, and the secondary stability was measured at 3 months and at 6 months postoperatively by using Osstell device. In addition, the bone density was measured preoperatively, immediately after implant placement, after 3 months, and after 6 months postoperatively by using CBCT radiographically.Results: Regarding the primary stability, the mean value was 66.10 ± 8.23 ISQ. in addition, a significant increase in the secondary stability at 3 months (with a mean of 72.10 ± 7.26 ISQ) and at 6 months (with a mean of 76.40 ± 5.70 ISQ) postoperatively. Also, a significant increase in bone density immediately after implant placement (with a mean of 361.1 ± 121.5 HU) and after 3 months (with a mean of 348.9 ± 98.29 HU) and after 6 months (with a mean of 349.4 ± 97.20 HU) postoperatively compared with bone density preoperatively (with a mean of 237.8 ± 98.87 HU).
