The Design and Simulation of Helical Gear

Abstract

Helical-toothed mechanical gears can transmit force and motion between two shafts that are parallel to one another. The curved teeth on these gears enable a more efficient and quieter functioning than the straight-cut teeth on other gears. It is necessary to design and simulate helical gears to ensure that they function correctly, last for an adequate amount of time, and maximize their efficiency. During the process of designing helical gears, it is necessary to define the module, pressure angle, helix angle, and number of teeth, to name just a few of the gear features that must be determined. To ensure that the gears mesh properly, the design of the gear teeth is also quite important. After the design has been completed, simulations may be done to see how effectively the gears function in a variety of environments. T he modeling of helical gears necessitates the investigation of contact stresses, bending stresses, and tooth deformation. FEA is often used when there is a need to simulate the mechanical behavior of the gears. This paper looks to investigate the results of simulations for different materials which will be used to make improvements to the design of the gear to ensure it has the highest possible efficiency and the longest possible lifespan. To perform their functions dependably and effectively. To enhance gear design, performance, and dependability, advanced simulation techniques such as finite element analysis are used to investigate important factors such as contact stresses, bending stresses, and the deformation of the gear teeth. Therefore, a helical gear that has been constructed and designed correctly is required for dependable and effective power transmission
