Abstract

This paper presents a study on the design ofrural energy systems and provides an analysis of thetechnical and economic feasibility of proposed HybridEnergy Systems (HES) for rural electrification in a villagein Egypt. The Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems aredesigned using the standard software tool HOMER Pro,addressing the optimization challenge of designing ahybrid renewable energy system based on demand-sidemanagement during peak and off-peak hours. In this study, realistic electricity consumption data for a single-familyresidence is evaluated in Qena City and Red Sea City inthe Arab Republic of Egypt. To evaluate the effectivenessof the recommended design plan, this study considersthree different cases. Simulation results reveal that thesuggested design scheme is more suitable for remotelocations than the previously proposed systems, asrepresented in these cases. Within each city, threescenarios are examined, and the optimal combination withthe lowest cost is selected. Furthermore, in unregulatedenergy systems in remote areas, demand-side management(DSM) proves effective in addressing uncertainties inrenewable energy generation and loading.
