Teaching Cybersecurity to Engineering Students: A New Perspective Through Literature Review

Abstract

In today's fast-changing world of cybersecurity threats, and specifically the dynamic domain of cybersecurity education which is characterized by constant flux in the digital landscape, understanding and effectively responding to emerging challenges are critical imperatives. With a specific focus on data-driven methodologies, this literature review aims to unravel patterns and insights without delving into the analysis of human responses. The objective is to synthesize current knowledge and identify gaps for potential future research. This paper undertakes a rigorous systematic literature review, analyzing 220 publications with 73 specifically addressing cybersecurity education retrieved from esteemed databases such as Scopus. For a thorough examination, the study employs quantitative and qualitative research methods. Notably, it delves into a focused exploration of word usage through the creation of word clouds, probes the interconnections among these words within specific subjects, and scrutinizes established maturity models.
