SYNERGISTIC IMPACT OF HYBRIDIZED CARBON NANOTUBES AND NANO CLAY THROUGH RESPONSE SURFACE ANALYSIS.

Abstract

In this study, the impact of hybridized carbon nanotubes and nano-clay on the mechanical properties of concrete is investigated. Through rigorous statistical analysis, the results demonstrate substantial improvements in compressive strength. For a cement content of 400 Kg/m3, a ratio of 0.05% CNTs leads to improvements of 27.82% and 31.79% at 7d and 28 d, respectively. In the case of cement content specimens with 550 Kg/m3, the optimal ratio is 0.03% CNTs, resulting in improvements of 25.28% and 23.18% at 7 and 28 days, respectively. Furthermore, the incorporation of CNTs and nano clay in hybrid mixes demonstrates significant enhancements in compressive strength. Mixtures with a ratio of 0.03% CNTs + 3% NC exhibit gains of 39.26% and 56.35% at 7 and 28 days, respectively, for a cement content of 400 Kg/m3. But, mixes with ratio of 0.01%CNTs + 3%NC ratio shows gains of 36% and 19.33% at 7 and 28 days, respectively, for a cement content of 550 Kg/m3. Additionally, the inclusion of CNTs and nano clay leads to a substantial rise in tensile strength resulting in a 136% increase for a cement content of 400 Kg/m3, and a 62.4% increase for a cement content of 550 Kg/m3. The statistical analysis confirms the significant contribution of the model in explaining variations in compressive strength and tensile strength.
