• Transparent and conductive Sb-doped SrSnO 3 (SSSO) high quality thin films were synthesized using modified sol–gel method. • High transparency of 90 % with a band gap of 4.04 eV and n-type semiconductive behavior. • A sustainable device based on n-SSSO/p-Si was fabricated and demonstrated significantly high current output. Sustainable Perovskite oxide − type transparent and conductive Sb–SrSnO 3 (SSSO) thin films were grown on silicon and quartz using the modified sol–gel method. The efficiency of this method in finding homogeneous, stable and efficient thin films using a simple low-cost method is revealed. The films show high single crystallinity with a cubic perovskite structure with lattice constant of 4.187 Å. These films show good optical transmittance in the visible range, with an indirect bandgap of 4.04 V. The structural, electrical, and optical properties of the SSSO films were probed and a diode based on n-SSSO/ p-Si structure was also demonstrated with a performance higher than previously reported works.
