Study QoS in MPLS Networks Through SDN Integration Under Security Constraints

Abstract

Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) networks form the backbone of modern communications, offering a robust and efficient data transmission across diverse applications. The integration of Software Defined Networking (SDN) into MPLS networks enhances network flexibility, centralized control, and adaptability. This paper discuss the impact of security mechanisms on quality of service (QoS) metrics, specifically packet loss, delay, jitter, and throughput, within a wireless MPLS network enhanced by SDN. By using IPsec at the packet level and enabling dynamic traffic management through SDN controllers. The proposed architecture effectively mitigates the negative effects of security overhead on performance. The methodology is validated through simulation using OMNeT++ 6.0 and the INET framework. The results demonstrate that thehybrid SDN MPLS model improves QoS, by reducing the end-to-end delay from 0.12s to 0.05s and minimizing packet loss for real-time traffic. These results Illustrating the potential of SDN integration to optimize performance in secure MPLS based wireless networks.
