This dataset contains processed, study-level data compiled to quantify HIV drug resistance (HIVDR) among individuals on antiretroviral therapy (ART) who experienced confirmed virological failure in sub-Saharan Africa between 2010 and 2025. Each record represents an individual study and includes variables on study setting, population characteristics, treatment exposure, and resistance outcomes, including prevalence estimates for overall HIVDR and by antiretroviral drug class (NNRTI, NRTI, PI, INSTI), as well as dual- and triple-class resistance, with corresponding confidence intervals and quality appraisal scores. Data were systematically identified from PubMed/MEDLINE, SCOPUS, and Google Scholar using predefined search criteria, and eligible observational studies were screened in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Relevant data were extracted using a standardised template and critically appraised using Joanna Briggs Institute tools. The dataset is structured to support reproducible meta-analysis, comparative analyses across regions and time periods, and secondary research on HIV treatment outcomes and resistance patterns.
