Strategies For Managing and Maintaining Green Infrastructure: Review

Abstract

Green spaces are essential infrastructures for improving quality of life, promoting biodiversity and responding to environmental challenges in urban areas. Their management requires a systemic approach combining strategic planning and regular maintenance. This review examines the various aspects of this management, including the organisation of green infrastructure, the public policies that support it, urban planning and appropriate maintenance strategies. It also sheds light on the different modes of governance, while analysing the contribution of available resources, whether human, material or financial, to their effectiveness and resilience. The design and management of green infrastructure is based on active cooperation between the various stakeholders, from decision-makers to citizens. This cooperation ensures an inclusive approach that is tailored to the specific needs of each area, thereby maximising their positive impact. This collective work helps to take account of different perspectives, ensuring sustainable and coherent solutions for urban well-being. This study highlights the importance of green spaces as pillars of urban sustainability, using a rigorous literature review to explore green infrastructure management practices. It highlights an approach that goes beyond planting to incorporate a long-term, strategic and sustainable vision.
