This study investigates strategies to address lift installation challenges in low-to mid-rise apartment buildings in the Greater Accra Region, recognising the essential role of lift systems in enhancing accessibility, functionality, and efficiency in modern multi-storey developments. Using a quantitative research design, data were collected from 133 purposively selected building occupants to identify key hindrances and practical strategies for effective lift adoption. The findings reveal that although lifts remain underutilised in many residential buildings, several strategic measures can mitigate installation challenges. These include optimising space during design, conducting cost–benefit analyses, and ensuring strict compliance with building codes. The study underscores the critical responsibility of local authorities to enforce Ghana’s building regulations, which mandate the installation of lifts and require the engagement of competent professionals for all eligible residential and commercial buildings. While the research is geographically limited to Greater Accra, its implications extend nationally due to increasing population density and the growing prevalence of low- to mid-rise structures. The findings provide valuable guidance for building approval bodies, emphasising the need to incorporate lifts into design submissions. Overall, the study contributes to existing empirical and theoretical knowledge on lift practices and promotes improved vertical mobility in Ghana’s residential sector.
