Strategic Transition from AC to HVDC: Impacts on Electromagnetic Fields and Transmission Efficiency

Abstract

The expansion of domestic regions and the energy sector has significantly increased the global demand for electrical utilities sector. One impactive approach to address this is transfering present high voltage alternating current (HVAC) to high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission networks to enhance transmission capacity. In Egypt, a single HVAC network was upgraded using four different arrangements. The Current Simulation Technique (CST) was utilized in this study to assess the electromagnetic field at the datum reference for the networks in question. By modifying the arrangement of the proposed network, the peak electromagnetic field can be adjusted from the basenetwork. This study also examines how the arrangement of poles and phases influences the spatial distribution of the electromagnetic field. The findings indicate that hybrid and HVDC systems offer the optimal solution.
