Waterborne diseases (WBDs) are infections caused by pathogenic microorganisms transmitted through contaminated water, and they have emerged as one of the world’s most pressing public health challenges. Common WBDs, such as cholera and hepatitis, particularly affect developing and underdeveloped countries. This work presents a comprehensive survey of various stochastic differential equation-based modeling studies to enhance our understanding of the mechanisms underlying waterborne disease transmission, spread, and control. We examine a range of methodologies developed in the literature and outline ongoing challenges in this research area
