As the global energy landscape shifts towards sustainability, the integration of renewable energy sources (RES) into existing power systems becomes imperative. Hosting capacity, defined as the maximum amount of renewable energy that can be accommodated without compromising system reliability, emerges as a critical parameter for effective integration. This review synthesizes current research on methodologies for assessing hosting capacity, focusing on their application to diverse renewable resources such as solar, wind, and hydropower. The review emphasizes that evaluating hosting capacity is crucial for the effective and dependable integration of renewable energy sources into the current power grid. This evaluation involves examining various criteria and acknowledging inherent system limitations.
