Smart cities benchmarking methods

Abstract

Over the last two decades, the term “Smart city” has known a big progress at the world level. ‘Smart city’ describes the use of smart technologies and data as a means to ensure city's sustainability and development. Many cities around the world are in the process of making themselves smart, using data and technology to improve the quality of life and to drive economic growth. Others are being built to be smart from the beginning. In this paper, we will present the vision of smart city with details, and we use the existing models of smart city to make a deep analysis and comparison between them. However, the main purpose of this paper is to investigate the different methods used in the literature to benchmark smart city models, we will also present how the method used in the benchmarking influence the results of the comparison.
