The aim of this paper is to compare and analyze the performance of single-phase and polyphase wireless power transfer (WPT) systems. In order to provide a precise and accurate comparison, the equivalent circuits of each type of WPT transfer system are determined, based on the principle of magnetic resonance between the primary and secondary coils. The comparison focuses mainly on the performance of the two types of wireless chargers in the case of charge current control in Constant Current (CC) mode for light and heavy Electric Vehicles (EVs). An analysis is also carried out to see what happens in the primary and secondary coils in the two types of chargers. The efficiency of three-phase WPT systems is far superior to that of single-phase systems, especially at high power levels. These findings help to decide which WPT system to use, depending on the application and the expected performance in each case.
