The occurrence of early skin cancers induced by the sun constitutes a real challenge that people with albinism (PAA) face in sub-Saharan Africa. They use imported sun protection products (SPP) that are not accessible (economically or geographically), which weakens their usage coverage. This study aims to select high-performance natural filters as candidates for the development of sunscreen in Mali. To do this, based on an ethnobotanical survey carried out in Mali and a review of the literature, ten local plants with photoprotective potential were chosen. The antiradical and photoprotective performance of their 70% aqueous and hydroethanolic extracts was evaluated. Spectrophotometric methods based on a measurement of the reduction of the DDPH radical and the determination of the Solar Protection Factor (SPF) were used to determine the antiradical and photoprotective activities, respectively. Three extracts from two plants demonstrated good anti-radical activity with an effective concentration 50 (EC50) ≤ 10 µg/mL and good photoprotective activity with an SPF ≥ 15. Hydroethanolic extracts of Lawsonia inermis leaves and Mangifera indica leaves presented anti-radical activities with EC50 values of 6.8 µg/mL ± 0.09 and 6.81 µg/mL ± 1.04, respectively. Aqueous extracts of Mangifera indica leaves showed 4.2 µg/mL ± 0.6. The photoprotective activities (FPS) of Lawsonia inermis leaves and Mangifera indica leaves were 28.2 ± 0.02 and 20.13 ± 0.02, respectively, for the hydroalcoholic extracts. Aqueous extracts of Mangifera indica leaves were 18.5 ± 0.07. This phase constitutes a major advance that will allow the development of SPP based on extracts from the leaves of local plants in Mali.
