PWM control of the new five-level Packed-T-cell inverter

Abstract

This article proposes a new single-dc-source multilevel inverter named Packed T cell. It is based on the Packed-U-Cell inverter in order to create a new converter that contains less power devices aiming to generate five voltage levels. To this purpose, a PWM technique is conducted to garaantee the self-balancing of capacitors voltages. Furthermore, neither regulation loop nor filters are needed resulting on a low inverter and installation cost. The proposed concept is simulated by the means of MATLAB Simulink environment. Simulation results prove on one hand the quality of the proposed technique and the fast response in stable and unstable conditions. On the other hand, total harmonic distortion (THD) is reduced and depends on switching frequency.
