Prevalence and Associated Risk Factors of Tick-borne Pathogens in Ruminant Animals at Sohag Governorate.

Abstract

The study aimed to detect the prevalence of tick-borne pathogens in ruminant animals at Sohag Governorate. The study was conducted between May 2023 and May 2024, a total of 1005 blood samples were collected from different animal species. The total prevalence was 47.36%. Theileria spp. infection rate was (44.44%), (26.67%), (4.32%), (17.19%) and (34.09%) in cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats and camels respectively, while Babesia spp. infection rate was (14.44%), (13.33%), (5.29%) and (1.5%) in cattle, buffaloes, sheep and goats respectively and Anaplasma spp. infection rate was (11.11%), (6.67%), (3.17%), (6.25%) and (29.55%) in cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats and camels respectively. Seasonal dynamics revealed that; summer significantly had the highest infection rate with Babesia sp. and Theileria spp. and the lowest was in winter for all pathogens. Age prevalence showed that; the age group of (0-3y) had the highest infection rate with Babesia spp. and Anaplasma sp. and the age group of (≥ 3y) had higher infection rate with Theileria spp. than animals of age (0-3y). Regarding sex factor, males insignificantly had a higher prevalence rate than females in case of Babesia spp. and Anaplasma sp, but in Theileria spp, females insignificantly had a higher prevalence rate than males.
