In this work, funded on the Sicilian European Regional Development Fund 2014-2020, the attention was focused on the ballistic protection of several components on military vessels (i.e. bulkheads of the ammunition depot). In particular, composite structures made of a backing in kevlar fibre and a core in ceramic material were investigated at varying the core thickness (i.e. 7, 8 and 9 mm). The aim was to develop a panel able not only to resist to bullet impact, according to Stanag 4569, but also to limit the final weight of the structure with a significant benefit in terms of energy efficiency.
