This paper presents the findings derived from an extensive literature survey focusing on the characteristic of leakage reactance in power transformers. Relevant publications were systematically identified, selected, and analyzed, mainly focusing on used methods in calculating leakage reactance in each publication. Analytical and numerical methods were noticed to be mostly dominant in leakage reactance calculations, and specifically, Finite Element Method (FEM) was observed to be generally the most used method and recent proposed analytical formulations are being compared to this method for the accuracy and improvements. Thereafter, co-keywords related to power transformer leakage reactance research were identified and analyzed using VOSviewer software tool. Additionally, the future areas of interest in this field were proposed. This work contributes to the sensitivity and importance of accurately determining the power transformer leakage reactance to improve the design. Lastly, this paper aims to provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of power transformer leakage reactance and may serve as a valuable resource for further research or decision-making.
