Abstract Traumatic arteriovenous (AV) fistulas generally result from penetrating injuries to contiguous arteries and veins. This allows the higher-pressure arterial blood to flow directly into the lower-pressure vein, which maintains the patency of the connection in the form of a fistula. Posttraumatic AV maxillary fistula is very uncommon in clinical practice. We present the case of a man who developed AV fistula of the internal maxillary artery 2 weeks after a facial injury treated elsewhere.
