Plant Response to Jasmonates Under Metal Toxicity by Alteration of Morpho-Physiological and Biochemical Insights

Abstract

Heavy metal deposition in soils can negatively impact crop growth and development owing to phytotoxicity, food safety and marketability, and the environmental health of soil organisms. It has become an issue in agricultural production. Plants' metabolic processes have an impact on the biological and geological dispersion of heavy metals by contaminating the air, water, and soil. Plants are an essential part of the ecosystem. Metal buildup, reduced development, altered metabolism, and decreased biomass production are all observed in plants living in metal-polluted environments. Metals have an impact on many physiological and biochemical processes in plants. Plant responses to metal toxicity and plant growth and development are regulated by jasmonates (JAs), which are widely distributed lipid-derived chemicals. Jasmonic acid belongs to the oxylipin family, as are its several metabolites. Hence, it has been illustrated that jasmonic acid plays a significant role in improving crops' tolerance to physiological and biochemical mechanisms that lessens the adverse effects of metal toxicity.
