Phytochemical Analysis and Bioactive Components of Trigonella foenum-graecum

Abstract

Nature has served as a reservoir of medicinal compounds, and a remarkable number of modern treatments have been discovered attributable to natural sources. The current study explores the medicinal capability of fenugreek (FG), a plant historically utilized for its therapeutic attributes and as a food condiment. The research highlights the significance of natural products in modern medicine, particularly in the context of emerging health threats. The FG seeds (FGS) are enriched with bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins, which exhibit antidiabetic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti cancerous activities. The study employs qualitative and quantitative phytochemical analysis methods, including HPLC and GC-MS, to define and quantify these compounds in FG extracts. Results indicate a substantial presence of flavonoid and phenolic compounds, correlating to the plant's antioxidant capacity. The findings underscore FG's potential as a natural therapy source and its implication in managing various health conditions, reinforcing the importance of traditional medicine in contemporary healthcare practices.
