2026Open accessUniversity of Nigeria

Abstract

The study determined the perceived influence of conflict resolution approaches on human relations among academic staff of public colleges of education in North-West Nigeria. The study has two research questions and two research hypotheses. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population for the study comprised 3,995 academic staff in public colleges of education in North-West Nigeria. The sample size of the study was 363 academic staff, obtained through Taro Yamane formula. The validated structured questionnaire was used for data collection. To determine the reliability of the instrument, Cronbach Alpha reliability method was used and 0.88 reliability co-efficient was obtained. The collected data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer research questions while t-test was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that, collaboration (X=4.01, SD=0.94) and accommodation (X=3.95, SD=0.89) approaches in conflict resolution on human relations have high influence on human relations among the academic staff of public colleges of education in North-West Nigeria. However, their mean ratings based on gender were not statistically significant. The study recommended among other things that, the management of colleges of education should formulate and enforce policies on structured procedures for handling conflicts among academic staff of the colleges of education. The suggestions for further studies were made.
