Path Loss Parameters Determination for Vehicle‐to‐Vehicle Communication in Urban Environment Based on Real Measurements

Abstract

Abstract Vehicle‐to‐Vehicle (V2V) communication plays a critical role in enabling intelligent transportation systems and ensuring road safety in dynamic urban environments. Due to the high mobility of vehicles and the presence of numerous obstacles such as buildings, vegetation and moving vehicles, signal propagation is highly variable and affected by factors including distance, obstruction, and urban density. Accurate modeling of large‐scale path loss is essential for reliable V2V link design and performance analysis. This paper presents a methodology for the determination of path loss parameters based on the log‐distance model, applied to V2V measurements in high and low density urban environments. A Kalman filter is used to preprocess the raw data. Subsequently, non‐linear least squares fitting is used to estimate the path loss exponent and reference path loss. The results demonstrate significant differences in path loss behavior between high and low density zones, highlighting the need for environment specific propagation models in V2V communication.
