Background: Fixation of radial head fractures is still controversial, as there is uncertainty about when the surgery is indicated as well as what type of surgical intervention is the best. Therefore, our study aimed to assess the clinical, radiological, and functional outcomes of arthroscopic assisted fixation of radial head fractures in adults. Methods: A prospective analytic study was conducted including 35 patients with Mason type II radial head fractures. We presented the midterm results of an arthroscopic technique for the reduction and percutaneous fixation of radial head fractures using a 2.7 mm Herbert screw. Postoperative outcome measures included the Arabic version of the Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand Questionnaire (DASH), the Mayo Elbow Performance Index (MEPI) and the Oxford Elbow (OE) Scores. Results: There was a significant gradual decrease in the DASH score at different follow-up points post-operatively ( P <0.001). The MEPI and OE scores at 6 mo were significantly higher than those at 3 mo and 6 wks ( P <0.001). The flexion angle of the elbow was gradually increased till 6 mo after surgery ( P <0.001). Conclusions: Arthroscopic-assisted radial head reduction and fixation is safe and reliable. It achieves good short-term radiological and functional outcomes in patients with Mason type II fractures of the radial head, as well as assessment of associated injuries.
