In this research a methodology for solving the problem of thyristor-controlled series compensator (TCSC) equipment optimal allocation in a transmission system is proposed. TCSC devices help to increase the controllability of the transmission power flow and simultaneously, to enhance the system performance. So, the TCSC device is incorporated into the multi-objective problem of active power allocation problem in addition to active and reactive power losses minimization and also improving voltage profile while preserving total generation cost of system slightly affected compared to its single objective base case. An adaptive seeker optimization algorithm (ASOA) is developed to efficiently find a good quality solution. However what extent the TCSC devices can brought out; it highly dependent on the location and parameter sitting of that device. No of TCSC units that may be installed in the power system can't be limited on condition that each one validates its investment cost by a reduction on the overall generation costs and losses. A linear optimal power flow framework is employed as an efficient and trusted tool that investigated compared with the proposed ASOA. The proposed ASOA finds optimal solution for selection of lines to be equipped with TCSC devices that optimize the benefits that TCSC provided to the transmission systems and is tested over a IEEE 9-bus and a 14-bus system obtaining good results. The comparison study proves capabilities of the ASOA compared with other optimization tools in the literature.
