Optimally allocating Distribution Flexible AC Transmission System (DFACTS) devices within distribution networks is of great importance for improving network performance. This paper presents the application of the Artificial Ecosystem Optimization (AEO) algorithm to determine the optimal location and sizing of DSTATCOM units in a radial distribution network. The objective function includes the minimization of the total power losses, voltage deviation, and the voltage stability index. The proposed algorithm's performance was evaluated using the standard IEEE 33-bus distribution network. The simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the AEO approach, highlighting significant enhancements in system performance compared to other optimization methods.
