Voltage source inverters (VSIs) connected to an LC filter at the output are the most suitable configurations for generating high-quality output voltage in stand-alone renewable energy systems. This paper combines the finite control set-model predictive control (FCS-MPC) with synergetic control (SC) theory to design a highly effective control scheme for a single-phase nine-level packed E-Cell inverter for stand-alone renewable energy systems. The control objectives of FCS-SMPC are to regulate the output voltage and balance the DC-link capacitor voltages. In this method, the defined macro variable is predicted and used to determine the optimal voltage vector involved in the FCS-SMPC cost function. Furthermore, the future behavior of DC-link capacitor voltages is calculated and involved in the FCS-SMPC cost function. To shed light on the effectiveness of the suggested control, a detailed comparison with the conventional FSC-MPC using Matlab/Simulink simulations is carried out. The proposed method outperforms FCS-MPC in all aspects while also reducing computational burden by 33%. This reduction is achieved because the proposed FSC-SMPC calculates the optimal voltage vector only once and calculates the future behavior of the DC-link capacitor voltages and the cost function for all switching states during one sampling time.
