Multifunctional Plasmonic Tellurite Photonic Crystal Fiber Polarization Splitter At Telecommunication Wavelengths

Abstract

In this paper, a compact, versatile multifunctional plasmonic Tellurite photonic crystal fiber polarization splitter (MF-PT-PCF) for the wavelengths 1.31 <tex>$\mu m$</tex> and 1.55 <tex>$\mu m$</tex> is reported. The proposed MF-PT-PCF splits the two polarized modes at the wavelengths 1.31 <tex>$\mu m$</tex> and 1.55 <tex>$\mu m$</tex> at the device length 131.0 <tex>$\mu m$</tex> by using the gold nanowire filled in the central hole as a plasmonic material and background material of ZnTe tellurite glass. Also, in order to increase the birefringence, nematic liquid crystal (NLC) is infiltrated in all holes in the proposed MF-PT- PCF. The finite element method is used for evaluation and analyzing the proposed device. The numerical results demonstrate that, at the wavelength of 1.31 <tex>$\mu \mathrm{m}$</tex>, the bandwidths of 58 nm for x-polarized mode and 48 nm for y-polarized mode can be achieved with crosstalks equal to -35 dB and -42 dB, for the two polarized modes, respectively. Additionally, the crosstalk for the two polarized modes at 1.55 <tex>$\mu m$</tex> are -45 dB with bandwidth of 124 nm and -43 dB with bandwidth of 88 nm, respectively.
