Carbapenems belong to the B-lactam family of antibiotics and are often used as antibiotics of last resort to treat infections caused by multidrug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae. The develop-ment of carbapenem resistance in Enterobacteriaceae bacteria around the world is posing a serious public health problem. Sporadic outbreaks or endemic conditions of enterobacterial isolates that are resistant to antibiotics .
