Minimizing Losses and Improving Voltage Profile in Power Systems through Wind Energy Integration

Abstract

This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of wind power integration in the IEEE 14-bus system, focusing on the impacts of variable wind generation on system performance. Using MATPOWER, we simulate the integration of up to three wind generators with realistic characteristics, including output variability and reactive power limitations. The study evaluates changes in system losses, voltage profiles, and power flows resulting from wind power integration. Our results demonstrate that wind integration can lead to significant changes in system behavior, including reduced overall losses under certain conditions and altered voltage profiles across the network. This work contributes to the growing body of knowledge on renewable energy integration and offers insights for power system planners and operators dealing with increasing wind power penetration.
