To determine the microbiological profile of catheter-related infections at the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center in Oujda, we conducted a prospective study from January 31, 2023, to October 30, 2023. All non-tunneled hemodialysis catheters received in the laboratory for microbiological examination were included. Out of a total of 157 samples received, 53 were positive, with a rate of 33.75%. Gram-positive cocci accounted for 73.43% of the identified strains, while Gram-negative bacilli constituted 25% of the isolated bacteria. Staphylococcus aureus was the predominant species with a frequency of 42.18%. Furthermore, 59.25% of Staphylococcus aureus strains were methicillin-resistant. Enterobacteriaceae showed resistance to ceftazidime in 36.36% of cases; 27.27% of Enterobacterales exhibited an extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) phenotype. All Acinetobacter baumannii strains were resistant to imipenem. It is necessary to characterize the bacterial ecology and determine antibiotic sensitivities to better guide therapeutic management.
