Metal-Halide Perovskites

Abstract

Metal-halide perovskites (MHP) exhibit a special type of crystal structure called ‘perovskite structure’ and possess many outstanding properties, such as tunable bandgap, broad absorption spectrum, and high absorption coefficient. They have a high charge carrier mobility and long charge diffusion length. These materials can potentially be used in solar cells. Solar energy is the largest renewable energy source, and with the help of perovskite solar cells, solar energy can be harvested with a reported conversion efficiency of 25.5%. MHPs exhibit good electrical properties and can be applied in devising fuel cells, batteries, and supercapacitors. MHP nanocrystals (NCs) exhibit extremely high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and tunable PL emission with a narrow bandwidth, and are promising candidates for fabrication of light emitting diodes (LEDs). The present chapter deals with research aspects of MHPs, such as their properties, synthesis, and applications.
