Mesenteric lymph node cavitation syndrome revealing celiac disease: Diagnostic and follow-up imaging findings

Abstract

Mesenteric lymph node cavitation syndrome (MLNCS) is an exceptional complication of celiac disease. We report a case of this rare condition, supported by a literature review. A 46-year-old man presented with chronic diarrhea and significant weight loss. Abdominal CT demonstrated mesenteric lymph nodes with central fatty or necrotic cavitation, along with splenic atrophy. Serologic testing confirmed celiac disease, and a gluten-free diet was initiated. This case highlights the pivotal role of imaging in identifying this rare complication and guiding patient management.
