Mapping Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Supply Chain Stakeholders in Morocco: Toward a Demand-Driven Approach to Enhancing Medicine Availability

Abstract

The efficiency of pharmaceutical supply chains in Morocco is important for ensuring timely access to medicines, hence mapping the pharmaceutical stakeholders and analyzing their interactions is crucial for improving visibility and coordination and enhancing responsiveness and demand-driven decision-making. The aim of this article is to explore the pharmaceutical supply chain through the lens of Demand-Driven Supply Chain (DDSC) principles, addressing the following research question: How can the relationships among pharmaceutical supply chain stakeholders in Morocco be modeled to enhance coordination and reduce inefficiencies? Using a qualitative approach, through structured interviews, the key pharmaceutical stakeholders were identified, including mainly medicine suppliers, distributors, healthcare facilities, regulatory bodies, and patients. A stakeholder map was developed to represent their interactions. This study provides a structured model to support healthcare stakeholders and supply chain professionals in transitioning towards a demand-driven pharmaceutical supply chain, ultimately enhancing medicine availability and optimizing pharmaceutical logistics and ensuring timely medicine access for patients. Future research could focus on integrating AI and ML forecasting models to optimize inventory management and reduce stockouts.
