<b>Influence of school-based management committees on infrastructure, instructional facilities, and students’ academic achievement in public senior secondary schools in North-West Nigeria</b><b></b>

Abstract

This study examined the influence of School Based Management Committees activities (SBMCs) on students’ academic achievement in public senior secondary schools North West Geo-Political Zone, Nigeria. To achieve this, two (2) objectives, research questions and null hypotheses were formulated. Ex- post facto research design was used to carry out the study. The population of this study is two thousand and twenty seven (2,027) of Senior Secondary Schools (Principals) in North West Geo-Political Zone, Nigeria. The required sample size was two hundred and forty eight (248). Multi stage sample technique was used to select the respondents. The questionnaire contains 50 statement, developed in sentences using the liker scale. The reliability index of the instrument was obtained at correlated coefficient r=0.86. Using combachs alpha correlation. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were employed in accordance with the research questions and hypotheses. Descriptive statistics, Simple Linear Regression was used to answer the stated null hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. The Findings reveals that, there was significant positive influence of infrastructural and instructional facilities provided by School Based Management Committees (SBMCs) on students’ academic achievement test of null hypothesis affirmed that the influence is statistically significant. It was recommended among others that School Based Management Committees (SBMCs) and educational stakeholders should improve and sustain infrastructural facilities to enhance teaching and learning processes and students’ academic outcome in public senior secondary schools.
