book chapter
Over the last decade, the revolution in ageing science has propelled advancements in therapies aimed at extending lifespan. The analysis of the traditional indicators of ageing has yielded reliable evidence to establish the existence of at least three new indicators, therefore creating opportunities for the advancement of innovative methods aimed at promoting lifespan. The pursuit of geroprotectors is highly intriguing, as it aims to identify the alchemical substance that promotes successful ageing and extends lifespan. Natural origin geroprotectors, including metformin, resveratrol, aspirin, and spermidine, are widely acknowledged as valuable agents that enhance longevity. Ongoing research is predominantly investigating the potential of plant secondary metabolites as pharmacological modulators of healthspan and lifespan. Therefore, this chapter rigorously evaluate the existing activities and significant findings in the area of longevity research.
