Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems are constituted of different renewable energy sources associated with various types of storage devices. They are becoming fundamental in the transition towards a decarbonized and sustainable energy future. Due to the energy flow complexity and the intermittent character of the renewable energy sources, integrating intelligent energy management system into Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems is paramount for optimizing performance, ensuring reliability, and reducing costs. This article provides an overview of the existing structures of the hybrid systems, elucidates the fundamental principles of the intelligent energy management systems and offer a comprehensive review of the most widely employed intelligent techniques in intelligent energy management systems.
