Integrated Coastal Zone Management in Angola

Abstract

This chapter examines integrated coastal zone management strategies in the Mussulo Peninsula of Angola, where tourism development, coastal erosion, and pollution pose significant challenges. Through a case study methodology that draws upon governmental reports, scientific literature, and stakeholder interviews, the research assesses Angola's efforts to promote sustainable tourism, land use management, and coastal environmental protection. The study highlights the effectiveness of zoning regulations, shoreline stabilisation, and community engagement, while emphasising stakeholder collaboration, biodiversity conservation, and robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms as crucial for sustainable coastal management. The lessons learned from the Mussulo Peninsula case study provide a valuable guide for future integrated coastal zone management strategies in Angola and contribute to global best practices for achieving a balance between economic development and environmental conservation in coastal regions.
