The South African national energy supplier, Es-kom, faces a complex challenge involving debt management, infrastructure maintenance, and meeting the increasing demand for reliable power. As Eskom tries to manage its debt while keeping its infrastructure functioning in a constrained network, it faces a critical paradox. Specifically, the need to maintain infrastructure with the necessity of keeping power units running to meet rising energy demand. This paradox highlights the urgent need for innovative solutions. Led by the country's green energy transition objectives, Eskom must explore incorporating renewable energy resources to improve power system stability and increase generation capacity while ensuring sufficient in-frastructure maintenance opportunities. This paper emphasises the need for structured maintenance planning, with Eskom's inevitable adoption of renewable energy, as a crucial strategy for enhancing power system stability while bolstering reliable generation capacity. With the increased integration of renewable energy resources into South Africa's energy mix, there is a heightened emphasis on securing essential maintenance windows for specifically transmission grid infrastructure to mitigate the risk of failures and ensure operational reliability. The paper delves into proposed solutions, such as the geospatial co-location and planned curtailment of renewable resources, specifically tailored to the unique context of South Africa.
